Mental health is a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.
(World Health Organization)
At Clayton Village Primary School we recognise how important mental health and emotional wellbeing is to our lives, in just the same way as physical health. We see our school as being a place for children to experience a nurturing and supportive environment, which has the potential to develop self-esteem and give positive experiences for overcoming adversity and building resilience. We aim to promote positive mental health and well-being for all of our staff and children. We pursue this aim using both universal, whole school approaches and specialized, targeted approaches aimed at vulnerable children.
We are proud to be part of the Mental Health Champions Scheme. We strive toward making sure Mental Health is a school priority. Making sense of a child’s mental health needs can be as difficult for parents as it can be for children. Through partnership working, we have ensured that our Learning Mentor is trained in Mental Health First Aid. To ensure all our children’s well-being is supported we also have a children’s well-being team.
